The increase in imaging, particularly cross sectional imaging with CT scanning has resulted in increased detection of “incidentalomas” These findings are often thought possibly malignant and result in further workup involving cost, patient anxiety and use of scarce medical resources.
The investigation of these “incidentalomas” often varies widely from doctor to doctor and from institution to institution.
This presentation will discuss and show some common incidental findings including pulmonary nodules, intra-abdominal lymph nodes, adrenal, renal, pancreatic and hepatic lesions with suggestions for appropriate investigation and follow up.
Typical benign lesions will be indicated so that unnecessary follow up can be (hopefully) avoided.
