Almost 0.1% of all pregnancies are complicated by cancer and this figure is expected to increase with the trend of women having children later in life. Many factors need to be considered when making the decision to treat cancer in a pregnant woman, including drug related concerns.
This presentation will cover the drug related aspects of treating cancer in pregnancy including: general pregnancy medication concerns, pharmacokinetics of anticancer agents in pregnancy, teratogenicity and effects on the growing embryo/foetus, placental transfer of anticancer agents and pregnancy outcomes.
Some of the anticancer agents commonly used during pregnancy and specific information around their use will also be addressed.
